MED100 - Medical Typing and Transcription

Covers ethical and legal responsibilities of the MT, equipment, punctuation, capitalization, transcribing numbers, figures, and abbreviations, report formats, proofreading, professional development and much more.

MED125 - Medical Terminology

Covers  Basic Elements of a Medical Word, Suffixes, Prefixes, Body Structure, Integumentary System, Gastrointestinal System, Respiratory System, Cardiovascular System, Blood, Lymph, and Immune Systems, Musculoskeletal System, Genitourinary System, Female Reproductive System, Endocrine System, Nervous System, and Special Senses. A systems approach is used.

MED135 - Medical Transcription

The HPI SUM CD is used in the medical transcription program.  Students transcribe the following reports:  Pharmacology/Laboratory Medicine; Dermatology; Urology; Gastroenterology; Orthopedics; Cardiology; Endocrinology/Pulmonary Medicine; Obstetrics & Gynecology; Ears, Nose, Throat/Ophthalmology; and Neurology.  This actual physician dictation is part of our comprehensive program and is arranged by body systems and is sequenced from simple to complex.

MED138 - Understanding Health Insurance

A comprehensive course that is the Guide for the Professional Biller.  Topic covered in the program:   Insurance Specialist - roles and Responsibilities; Legal Considerations; Life Cycle of an Insurance Claim; Introduction to Health Insurance; Managed Health Care; Diagnostic Coding; Procedural Coding; Common Claims Processing Guidelines; Filing Commercial Claims; Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans; Medicare; Medicaid; Champus/Champva/Tricare; Workers' Compensation; Disability Compensation programs and much more.  Provides instructions in plain, simple to understand language.

MED140 - Computers in the Medical Office

A comprehensive course that teaches the student the following computerized duties of a medical biller/insurance specialist.  Topics covered in the program include:  An Introduction to Computers; Introduction to Medisoft; Recording Patient Information; Recording Charges; Scheduling Appointments; Recording Payments; Report Management (Transaction Journal, Patient Ledger, Patient Aging, Insurance Aging, Patient Day Sheet, etc.); and Filing Claims Electronically and much more.
